Point of clarification. I shoot with both digital and film gear. And when I shoot film, I usually give my pro labs the direction to scan the developed negatives and give me digital copies of those scans.
On other instances, I’ll take the negatives and scan them in my flatbed scanner. Which … unfortunately … introduces little nasty dust particles and hairs and other debris into my images, which I then must painstakingly edit out of every single shot. Ugh.
Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy my flatbed scanner, and it is quite a durable product. But man, I need an upgrade.
And maybe … just maybe … this new DigitaLIZA+ film scanner from the Lomography company might be what I need.
Here’s a video of what the scanner can do; essentially I can place my 35mm and 120 film into the holder, then use my cell phone to take a photo of the film, then use my computer software programs to process the picture.
Now here’s the thing. If I’m going to test out a product like this, I’m going to do it with some understanding and transparency. Lomography has not sent me one of these units. I am actually purchasing this at full price (about $70). I have not received any benefits or remuneration from Lomography or any of its subsidiary companies for a review of this product. Once I get the product and test it out, those opinions and overviews will be my own honest opinions and overviews.
In other words, nobody buys my opinions or reviews on this site.
Trust me. You can’t afford my price. ๐
So once this unit comes in, I have some film negatives that need a quick scan with this product. I’ll test it out, and hopefully I’ll be able to pull some great shots WITHOUT those nasty dust particles and inherent crapola.
And I’ll keep you updated on same.
Wow.
My last memory of a darkroom was when my big brother took it up as a hobby down in our basement, back in the late 50s: shallow bins, smelly chemicals, clothes lines, plastic clothes pins, red light bulbs…and fingers crossed.
I can’t understand why you’d want to just abandon all that fun stuff.
